HOME
NURSING
The certificate course in Home Nursing
(Bed Side Assistant to Patients) has been conducted by SYD from the year 1991 with a view to educate and
employ school drop outs or any interested women. These girls are trained to provide care to aged/sick persons
or those recovering from illness, an accident, or childbirth. The core and primary service is critical to the semi
and non-ambulant patients recuperating at home. In view of the perennial shortage of hospital beds, patients are
discharged by the hospitals as soon as the medical conditions permit, but they will still need home nursing.
The Office at SYD receives at least 10 enquiries per day for availing the services of home nursing. Although initially
SYD undertook the task of placing the trained Home Nurses with families, having helped more than 1000 families in Goa and elsewhere,
this service has since been discontinued as the trained girls get lucrative employment in hospitals and nursing homes.
